Mattel is one of the leading top manufacturers in the world and responsible for well-known brands Barbie, Hot Wheels and Fisher and Price.

The iconic brand Mattel engaged Amicus Interiors for their office fitout as they felt that we took time to gain a thorough understanding of their vision and brief and the previous experience Amicus have had with similar consumer group companies. 


Mattel’s office in Richmond was tired and dated and in desperate need of an overhaul.  With a limited budget, the refurbishment focused around modernising the 1200sqm office and establishing collaborative environments.  A cultural shift took place with a push to get Managers out of offices and to introduce efficient workstations with circulation paths around both the perimeter and the core.

The change to the office is substantial and demonstrates what can be achieved with a limited budget.  It is a refreshing and lively environment and provides Mattel staff with a variety of spaces for informal meetings, collaboration and team bonding on a daily basis.  Closed offices have been transformed into meeting rooms, each with their own “toy” theme identified by decals to exterior glass walls. The kitchen and breakout space doubles as a town hall area and adjacent is a space for play, equipped with ping pong and foosball tables.  Mattel red is injected subtly throughout the fitout with the clever application of paint, feature carpet tiles and loose furniture.

To provide business continuity the works were completed in stages, with noisy works scheduled out of business hours.
